Weather
The week started with the end phase of the first artic outbreak of the season as a warm, wet, windy storm ushered in a return to a zonal (westerly) flow containing a series of systems.

Submitted by admin on Thu, 01/05/2012 - 14:33Very high winds above 2200m, Warm temps and moderate snow fall have developed SSL in exposed areas on all aspects. Suspect heavy transport and cornice growth at ridge top, Up to 35cm HST in Alp, 25cm TL and Rain below 1600m. Stability tests at 2100m produced CTM 1 SP down 70cm on Dec 17th SH sz 7mm, Failed with a pop and slide 4 inches. Warm temps(rain) and continued snow likely to produce avalanches in unsupported terrain features at all elevations. Drop in temperatures will indicate when weaknesses begin to get less reactive.
