Weather
The week started with the end phase of the first artic outbreak of the season as a warm, wet, windy storm ushered in a return to a zonal (westerly) flow containing a series of systems.

Cold Smoke 1 metre powder session at Fernie, Jan 17 & 18.

Epic 2 days at Fernie ski resort with over a metre of snow fall in 48hrs.

Waist to chest deep ploughing 

Temps where super cold at -27 C, Typical old school Fernhole dump.

January 4th, 2012-------Wind event (125km/hr) & Rain below 1600m

Very high winds above 2200m, Warm temps and moderate snow fall have developed SSL in exposed areas on all aspects. Suspect heavy transport and cornice growth at ridge top, Up to 35cm HST in Alp, 25cm TL and Rain below 1600m. Stability tests at 2100m produced CTM 1 SP down 70cm on Dec 17th SH sz 7mm, Failed with a pop and slide 4 inches. Warm temps(rain) and continued snow likely to produce avalanches in unsupported terrain features at all elevations. Drop in temperatures will indicate when weaknesses begin to get less reactive.
